At around 7 p.m., a driver alerted the police because he noticed an obviously drunk driver in a white car sharing Mercedes on Hermannstrasse.

At the intersection of Emser Strasse, the Mercedes crashed into a VW Golf that was waiting at a red light. The Mercedes backed up, gave full throttle and fled over the red light. At the intersection he rammed a Renault Twingo.

But the 22-year-old Mercedes driver fled on. Shortly before Altenbraker Strasse, he raced into a Smart that was about to overtake an ambulance. He was in the second row because of a mission. Due to the force of the impact, the Smart was pushed onto the ambulance, which slightly injured an emergency doctor.

According to witnesses, the Mercedes took off due to the violent crash and is even said to have driven on two wheels. Then he rammed two parked Audi and a BMW. The Mercedes driver accelerated again and crashed into a parked VW and an Opel. A Dacia, a Hyundai, a Renault and a Toyota were pushed together by the force.

The young man damaged 14 cars on his breakneck escape, which he continued on foot with his friends.

In the interior of the abandoned Mercedes, police officers discovered several half-empty beer bottles and a smartphone.

Around midnight, a witness reported to the police who was able to provide decisive information about the identity of the driver involved in the accident. Thereupon plainclothes police checked the suspect’s address in a youth facility on Hermannstrasse. There they actually met the driver involved in the accident, who slept off his intoxication there.

The officers woke the young man and arrested him. At the time, he still had a blood alcohol level of one thousandth. The investigators discovered the key to the car-sharing Mercedes in his pocket. The 22-year-old is now being investigated for, among other things, drunk driving, negligent bodily harm and driving without a license.
