HE LEFT HINTS AGAINST GREECE
The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, left accusations against Greece, on the occasion of the Beleri case, in the press conference he gave late yesterday evening to journalists on the occasion of his party’s – unprecedented – victory in the May 14 municipal elections.
Without disputing the result that made the expatriate Freddy Beleris the winner, Edi Rama devoted ten minutes of his placement to the issue of the elections in Himara, implying that there was exploitation of the issue by Greece for pre-election reasons.
The Rama spikes
“I first want to respect the elections in Greece and understand the incendiary rhetoric” on this issue Rama said, adding that for his part he will make efforts for more moderation and self-restraint. “I am determined to do the maximum possible, before I am forced to react institutionally”, he said, according to the ERT correspondent, and added that he will not speak until the end of the elections in Greece.
He concluded his statement by saying that “I believe that the Greek minority is not fodder for anyone’s electoral cannons, neither in Albania, nor in Greece”.
Also, referring to the Albanian judiciary, he said that despite its problems, it cannot be questioned and put under pressure by anyone, especially by foreign actors, meaning the Greek requests for knowledge of the incriminating evidence in the Beleri case.
What did he say about the Beleri imprisonment?
In the same vein, he said that there are not two types of justice in Albania, adding that the election process and counting of votes in Himara were smooth and transparent, with the presence of Greek diplomats as observers and the Greek and Albanian media.
From this process, he said, the victory of the candidate opponent of the Government emerged, a victory which Rama did not dispute. However, he separated the election result from the development in Beleris’ case with justice, pointing out that everything will depend on the decision of the special court that has the competence to hear such cases.
“The institutions of justice in Albania may have their problems and imperfections, but no one, me first, ever questioned their decisions, and not after others, let alone outside Albania, put them under question and under pressure their role. Two or three days before the registration of candidates, the prosecutor’s office and the police arrested a mayor and probably a candidate of the Socialist Party (SP) in Bulkiza, on a case and on a charge that I still don’t really know what it is.
It never occurred to me to question their work and role, nor do I intend to. There is no way we can agree with the idea that there is another justice for the citizens of Albania and another justice for the citizens of Albania with Greek citizenship. It is about the same nationality. I heard a lot and preferred not to speak until the end of the elections, hoping that after the end of the elections in Greece there will be a dialogue,” said Rama, according to oranews.
