The owner of the optics on the Arent Janszoon Ernststraat where a ram raid took place last night can not believe it. “It’s not normal. In a minute and a half they get the most expensive stuff from your store and it’s done.”

At around 3 a.m. last night, a stolen BMW hit the entrance of the optician on Arent Janszoon Ernststraat. Camera images show that one of the two perpetrators is already setting up the flight motor. A little later they get to work. Owner Edwin van Dijk points to the images. “Here, there they come, taktak, huppetee, in the bag”. The two perpetrators take the most expensive glasses from the shelves. “They look like young gassies. They are very flexible and eager.”
Cartiers
“We are a bit used to it”, says Van Dijk. “We were also robbed two weeks ago in Purmerend. They took Cartiers away with a hammer.” Recently, criminals also tried to get into his case in Utrecht with a robbery, but fortunately that did not work. “But it did work out here,” he sighs.
The police searched for the perpetrators with a helicopter last night, but the perpetrators have not yet been found. After the squat, the perpetrators probably got away with a motor scooter in the direction of Willem van Weldammelaan. The police think they were not wearing a helmet. Witnesses are called to report.
Bunker
The owner is now thinking about installing posts to at least withstand ram raids. “Well, for the rest … We can hardly turn this into a bunker.”
