The son of the seven-time champion will probably only be “black Peter” in the next season. The last hope for a place in Formula 1 – Williams – has apparently vanished. Schumacher will most likely appear “only” in the WEC in the colors of Alpina in a year, although the cooperation has apparently not yet been sealed on paper.
While Alex Albon in Williams wows with his performances and scores points on a fairly regular basis, the Thai’s American counterpart Logan Sargeant kicks one mistake after another and instead of finally scoring points, he just spends the team’s budget with numerous crashes.
According to such Ralf Schumacher – whose position should be taken with a grain of salt, as he is Mick’s uncle – Sargeant has already been given enough chances to show off by Williams and he should be replaced as soon as possible without unnecessary ado.
“Sargeant seems to be in a mess,” said a former competitor of the team from Grove or Toyota pro F1 Insider. “You can see it. In the long term, Williams, which is on the rise, cannot afford a racer who crashes or doesn’t score points.”
However, if the 46-year-old German hopes that it will be Mick who replaces Sargeant, he is mistaken. Despite considerable lobbying from Toto Wolff, who is keeping a protective hand over the young ‘Schumi’, as well as the driver himself, who was seen in the Williams garage during the Suzuka weekend, the third most successful team of all time led by James Vowles is likely to keep the American.
However, if Williams and Sargeant were to open the door after all, Schumacher would probably not get the chance, but last year’s Formula 2 championship winner Felipe Drugovich. In addition to numerous experiences from the lower F2, the Brazilian has a considerable amount of money, specifically, the sponsors of the 23-year-old racer could collect approximately fifteen million euros annually.
But what will happen to Schumacher? The German will probably land in the WEC, but similarly to F1, it is not a bed of roses. The Haas ex-pilot was reportedly rejected by at least Porsche, but fortunately Alpine is said to be offering the young man a place under its roof.
For what purpose does Schumacher intend to transfer to the WEC? Perhaps endurance races are such an attraction for the German? The competition has its quality – and it is undoubtedly enormous.
However, the son of the record holder in the number of championship titles, above all, intends to convince Alpine of his qualities, and if he succeeds in this and perhaps a place in the French team becomes available in time, “Schumi” will fight for his place under the sun. Will Schumacher’s tactics succeed? We will see.
