Cora Brinkmann was married to Ralf Schumacher, the younger brother of former Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, from 2001 to 2015. They had a son, David, who is now 22 years old. The former driver surprised his followers last July when he announced his homosexuality on social media and introduced his boyfriend, Etienne.
She previously told several media outlets, such as ‘Der Spiegel’, that all this had taken her “by surprise” and that it felt like “a stab in the heart.” According to the 47-year-old model and presenter, the German should have shown “more respect towards her” by letting her know about his decision to introduce Etienne through a photograph on social media.
“There were a lot of rumours during his career in Formula 1. I asked him to clarify if what was being said was true, but he always denied it, telling me that I was imagining everything and that maybe he needed psychological help,” she says. “Coming out of the closet always affects those around you, including the ex-wife with whom you had a child,” she adds.
Ralf Schumacher did not take these statements well and he lashed out at his former wife by publishing a screenshot of a conversation between Cora and Etienne. In the exchange of messages you can see that he congratulates them.
“I was told that you got married because you both wear rings on your right hand… I am very happy for both of you,” she writes. “But in France it is on the left hand… on the side of the heart. So…” Etienne then clarified. “Ralf is German,” Schumarcher’s ex-wife explained. “Anyway, I am happy for you guys,” she added. “I would like to clarify that she congratulated us in September 2023 because she thought we were getting married,” Schumacher explains on his Instagram profile. “It is a shame that she spreads so many lies. We just want to be at peace.”
