Former Formula 1 racer Ralf Schumacher, after admitting his homosexuality in July, went with his partner Étienne on a luxury yacht to St. Tropez. Despite the negative reaction of his ex-wife, who described the coming-out as a “blow to the heart”, according to the German newspaper Der Spiegel, the pair enjoyed their time together in the sun.
Ralf Schumacher and his French partner Étienne, who holds the position of general manager, were on a yacht cruise in St. Tropez captured in several intimate moments holding hands, hugging and kissing. According to the agency Reuters their relationship has been strong for two years.
Despite the length of the relationship, Ralf decided to reveal his personal life to the public only this July. On Instagram shared a photo in which the two are captured on board a boat watching the sunset together in an embrace. He captioned the photo: “The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side to share everything with.”
Schumacher’s coming-out caused mixed reactions, especially from his family. His ex-wife Cora Schumacher, with whom he has a son David, spoke to the newspaper The mirror she confided that the news of Ralf’s orientation was a “blow to the heart” for her. She felt betrayed because Ralf never told her about his feelings, even though she had suspicions during his Formula 1 career.
Tensions between the ex-spouses further increased when Ralf posted a private conversation on social media in which Cora congratulated Étienne on her supposed marriage to Ralf, which was not true. This move further deepened the tension between them.
Cora Schumacher has slammed her ex-husband Ralf for publishing their private conversation, calling his act “pathetic” and “pathetic”. In an interview for a newspaper Daily Mail she explained that she was only trying to find out the nature of the relationship between Ralf and Étienne, whom he introduced to her as an assistant. Cora also expressed grief over the fact that her son David is estranged from her after the divorce, but is very close to his father and supports him in his new relationship. David followed in his father’s footsteps and became a racing driver.
