Statement of the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD) General TNI Sitting Abdurachman Religion is back in the spotlight. This time, the focus was on the phrase ‘don’t study religion too much’.
The TNI AD corrected the General’s intentions. It is said, meaning Sit down is that in studying religion there must be a spiritual companion who directs, such as an ustaz. This was explained by the Head of the Information Service of the Indonesian Army (Kadispenad) Brigadier General Tatang Subarna.
“That’s what Kasad conveyed in the video that was shown on the Dispenad YouTube account when giving a cult after Fajr prayers with soldiers of the XVIII/Cenderawasih Military Command,” said Brigadier General Tatang as quoted from the official TNI AD website, Monday (6/12/2021).
Brigadier General Tatang said someone who deepens religious knowledge must be accompanied, because studying religion without expert assistance can potentially lead to deviations.
Brigadier General Tatang said he was present at the cult activity. Sit down explained that currently many people are studying religion without any expert teachers at that time.
This condition, he continued, makes it easy for someone to be deceived by people who interpret religion not according to the teachings of the Prophet.
“By studying religion alone, especially in depth without a teacher, it tends to be easily influenced. In the end, it will actually lead to deviations,” he said.
“For example, the word of this hadith follows. Then, the word of another hadith, also follows. Therefore, do not be too deep in studying religion without an expert mentor. It is different when someone directs and guides correctly and expertly,” he added.
While serving as Pangkostrad, Dudung also gave briefings to his soldiers regarding religion. Dudung asked soldiers not to be religious fanatics because all religions are the same.
“Be wise in playing social media according to the rules that apply to soldiers. Avoid being excessively fanatical about a religion. Because all religions are true in the eyes of God,” said Dudung, quoted detik.com from the press statement on the Information of Kostrad, Tuesday (14/9/2021).
