Raisi Refuses to Meet Biden Despite US Meeting Iran’s Demands

TEHERAN – President-elect Iran Ebrahim Raisi hints he will not meet President United States of America (US) Joe Biden under any circumstances, including if Washington complies with all of Tehran’s demands in the ongoing Vienna talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal.

Raisi is an ultraconservative cleric and a close ally of Iran’s supreme leader.

He was speaking at his first news conference since winning Iran’s presidential election on Friday.

He will take over as president from Hassan Rouhani in early August.

Asked if he was willing to meet Biden to resolve the dispute between the U.S. and Iran if Washington lifted sanctions against Tehran and met Iran’s demands first, Raisi replied firmly, “No.”

The US and Iran have been in indirect talks in Vienna since April to revive the 2015 nuclear deal.
