What you should know
It might be a good idea to leave the house with your wellies and umbrella on Thursday, due to the rain. Storms will take several hours to push the rain, so expect to need an umbrella at night before the rain finally pushes to the east. The atmosphere will be very juicy which means there will be plenty of moisture to create some impressive rain totals. The sun would return on Friday before another round of showers over the weekend with a chance of scattered thunderstorms, especially Saturday night and on Sunday morning just before the Dominican National Parade in New York City which you can see here.
NEW YORK — It might be a good idea to leave the house with your wellies and umbrella on Thursday because of the rain.
After a day of perfect weather on Wednesday, sunny skies will take the night off on Thursday. The day starts out dry, but by early afternoon the rain will begin to move into New York City.
Storms will take several hours to push the rain, so expect to need an umbrella at night before the rain finally pushes east. The atmosphere will be very juicy, which means there will be plenty of moisture to create impressive rainfall totals.
How much rain could be in store for us? Most of the tri-state area could see between 1 and 2 inches, while more isolated areas in and around New York City, especially parts of New Jersey, could see up to 3 inches.
The rain will come for a long period of time, perhaps six hours in some places, which reduces any potential risk of flash flooding, but isolated pockets of heavy rain could still cause problems.
The good news is that severe storms are not likely.
Once that clears up, Friday looks to be downright fabulous. Scattered thunderstorms are possible, especially on Saturday night and Sunday morning just before the Dominican National Parade in New York City which you can see here.
