Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The beginning of the new year is synonymous with the rainy season, so it is often called the flu season. Coupled with the current condition of the Covid-19 pandemic, flu is a little bit undoubtedly making us somewhat paranoia.
Quoted from Boldsky, some people who often catch flu are usually because of a weak immune system and unclean habits. Therefore, it is important to prevent the body from catching the flu by changing a healthy lifestyle and diet.
“Eating a healthy diet helps ensure that your immune system is strong enough to fight infection,” said preventive medicine doctor in Nashville, Tennessee, dr. Cedrina Calder, quoted from detikcom.
Quoted from detikcom who launched Eat This, here are eight foods that can prevent flu in the middle of the rainy season:
1. Vitamin A Food
dr. Calder said foods that contain vitamin A play an important role in fighting infection. Vitamin A is found in foods such as sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, spinach and broccoli.
2. Vitamin C Foods
Vitamin C functions as an antioxidant and stimulates immune cells. Some of the best sources of vitamin C include bell peppers, broccoli, citrus fruits, and berries.
3. Water lettuce
Watercress is a very low calorie food but rich in vitamins, minerals and nutrient dense. In fact, watercress ranks as the most nutrient-dense food on the CDC Powerhouse Fruits and Vegetables list, due to its mineral content, including magnesium, calcium, manganese, potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin K.
“Like other cruciferous vegetables, watercress is rich in free radical-fighting antioxidants that strengthen your cells and protect your immune system,” explains nutritionist dr. Daryl Gioffre.
4. Vitamin D Foods
Vitamin D is able to increase immune function in fighting flu. Enter a menu of foods that contain vitamin D such as fatty fish, including salmon, tuna and mackerel for regular consumption.
5. Celery
Celery is high in soluble and insoluble fiber and contains essential minerals that are good for the immune system, helping to neutralize acids and toxins in the body. Celery also contains anti-inflammatory compounds that can help reduce the risk of infection and disease.
6. Vitamin E Foods
Apart from vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin D, the body also needs vitamin E which contains antioxidants to regulate the immune system. Nuts, seeds and oils such as almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower oil, and sunflower seeds have adequate amounts of vitamin E.
7. Avocado
dr. Gioffre says avocado is a good source of glutathione, and antioxidants that are good for the immune system. Avocados also contain vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E to prevent colds.
8. Food with Zinc
Zinc is a mineral necessary for the development and function of immune cells. Seafood such as oysters, crab, and lobster are great sources of zinc.
