At least four people died, including three children, and flooding was caused by the weekend rains in El Salvador, authorities reported today.

Two minors were buried by landslides on Friday night and one was swept away by the current of the Acelhuate River in Soyapango, Civil Protection said.

The deaths are linked to heavy rains that hit the country between Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

In addition to the minors who died, an adult died in Ilobasco, in the municipality of Cabañas Oeste, due to the serious injury he suffered after being buried by a wall that collapsed.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources reported significant accumulated rainfall until 11:23 p.m. (local time) on Saturday, including 69.8 milliliters (mm) of rain at the Candelaria de la Frontera station, Santa Ana.

As well as 65.6 milliliters in Perquín, Morazán, and 52.2 at the El Jocote station, in La Libertad Norte.

Rain continued to fall on Saturday night and Sunday morning, although the sky in San Salvador remained clear in the morning.
