Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction
Rainbow Six Extraction is an exciting game that is fun when you play it alone, but also with two or three players, which is great. The game is a bit quieter and more exciting solo, while it becomes more chaotic and more difficult with multiple players. Because the game generates missions randomly, you never play quite the same Incursion, but the actions associated with the missions are always the same. This ensures that the game is often fun for one or a few hours, but then quickly loses its appeal. There is a story, but that is not important. The advantage of this is that you can play the game again for a few hours later without any problems; After all, it is impossible to lose the thread of the story. Although the gameplay is okay and the game is really fun to play, the whole thing is too little. In addition, the sinister atmosphere may come across well, but the game is also not a high flyer from an audiovisual point of view. Purchasing it ensures you of some evenings of fun, but those who leave the game, don’t miss much.

When we were able to preview Rainbow Six Extraction in June of last year, we were mostly left with questions. It was not entirely clear to us who this game was intended for. That was partly because it was not clear what role the story would play in the game and how long the gameplay would remain fun. Another question we were left with was whether the obvious similarities to Rainbox Six Siege could mean that gamers who didn’t like that game might not like it either. And would gamers who play Siege bother to get started with this spin-off as well? The game is therefore in a difficult situation in advance. In addition, several questions about the gameplay systems could not be answered yet. It therefore came as no surprise that the game planned for September 2021 was postponed to early 2022. We have now been able to play the full version extensively, but have all questions been answered? No, not that.
Rainbow Six Extraction is a game that originated in Rainbow Six Siege. That game mainly revolves around PvP, but with the game mode Outbreak in the Chimera Expansion already had a PvE mode for three players. That is the foundation upon which Rainbow Six Extraction is built. It is therefore possible that you already know the idea a bit, although Extraction is of course more extensive. The game is all about the outbreak of the Chimera parasite that is spreading around the world from the United States at lightning speed. The Operators are put to work for React, which stands for Rainbow exogenous analysis and containment team. This team’s job is to get a picture of the outbreak and learn more about the parasite, the monsters that come with it, and the mutations that arise and are discovered by playing missions and collecting samples.
Those monsters are called Archaeans and you’ll find them in all shapes and sizes during your missions. The monsters you encounter depend on the level you are playing at. At the lowest level you will only encounter standard variants, but at higher levels you will get other Archaeans on your board. Not only that; Mutations can therefore occur that complicate things. For example, the nests you encounter and which you normally easily destroy can suddenly have an extra layer, making them more difficult to demolish. There is also a mutation that allows Archaens to be invisible, without requiring a Lurker – which can do that by default. It’s one way that Extraction gets a little more difficult at higher levels.
Things like that don’t come into play when you’ve just started the game. The adventure starts in New York, where you can’t even choose the higher levels at first. That’s a good thing, because if you’re just starting out, Rainbow Six Extraction isn’t an easy game. The approach is simple enough. You enter an ‘Incursion’ alone or together with one or two other players. You are dropped in one of the zones of a map and you start your first mission there. Once you’ve completed that, you’ll have the choice of either moving on to the next zone and taking on another mission there, or heading toward the helipad to exit the Incursion. An Incursion consists of three zones, so at best you’ll complete three missions before boarding the helicopter to get to safety.
