The rainbow riders of the German Children’s Cancer Foundation are going on a courageous tour again: The 50-person cycling team will cycle from Ulm to Würzburg from August 21 to 28 and split the route into two groups. The first team will cover the distance from Ulm to Regensburg from August 21st to 24th. There she hands over the baton to another 25 drivers. The second team will then pedal between Regensburg and Würzburg from August 24th to August 28th.
At their last stop, the cyclists are expected on Saturday, August 28th, around 12 noon in Kitzingen on the city balcony. Mayor Astrid Glos and Hofrat Walter Vierrether with his court will receive the rainbow drivers there, provide them with provisions and hand over a check from the city of Kitzingen, according to a press letter from the city. Thomas “Otto” Ellmauer will also be there, who is collecting donations for children with cancer through many campaigns. He will then accompany the cyclists to Würzburg.
Stop at eight clinics and nine parents’ associations
In eight stages you cross Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria by bike, stopping at eight clinics with pediatric oncology wards and at nine parents’ associations. The athletes, who all suffered from cancer as children or adolescents, are united by their goal: They want to instill courage and confidence in the young patients and their families during the stressful and stressful time of therapy. With their commitment, they also demonstrate that top athletic performance is possible after suffering from cancer. In their luggage they also have a package that contains rainbow bracelets, self-designed courageous beads in the shape of a rainbow and gifts. These are presented in front of the gates of the clinics.
The organizer of the rainbow trip is the German Children’s Cancer Foundation. The organization, which is mainly financed by donations and founded by the umbrella organization of the German Leukemia Research Aid – Campaign for Children with Cancer (DLFH), provides help and advice to children with cancer and their families. She works to ensure that the chances of recovery, treatment methods and quality of life for children with cancer are continuously improved. DLFH and the German Children’s Cancer Foundation are the authorized representatives of 76 parents’ associations in Germany and the families concerned.
