Looking for witnesses
According to police, the time of the crime could be limited to between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m. “According to current knowledge, the as yet unknown perpetrator or perpetrators damaged the flagpole and stole the flag attached to it,” a spokesman said in the morning. The damage caused is around 35 euros.
Possible witnesses are now called upon to contact the police. You can do this at the Neubrandenburg police headquarters on 0395 55825224. In addition, every other police station and the Internet watch open.
Already several attacks
According to its own statements, the Wiekhaus of the association, which is committed to homosexual, trans and bisexual people as well as general equality, has often been the target of vandalism.
Within the past two months there have been attacks on the club center, with, among other things, the entrance sign being covered with stickers from the “Junge Alternative” and a right-wing movement from Leipzig, said Marcel Spittel, chairman of queer NB, to the Nordkurier two weeks ago. “Against this background, we would like to see solidarity in the city. But now the city council is also passing a resolution that limits queer visibility.”
The rainbow flag came into particular focus in Neubrandenburg after a ban by the city council, according to which it can no longer be flown at the train station. In response, the association organized a demonstration. Shop operators, schools and citizens also hoisted the rainbow banner in their windows.
