A powerful storm – known in English as a ‘cyclone bomb’ – is approaching the northwest of the country and which will bring heavy rains, strong winds and a little snow to New York City.
As noted by the New York Metro Weather service, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the city that will be in effect on Saturday.
“Expect a bag of surprises with the shocking weather, including rain in the morning and a transition to snow and wind in the afternoon,” New York Metro Weather writes in a social media message.

The storm occurs when spring is just a few days away and after a week in which temperatures have generally been relatively high.
The City also alerted about the Winter Weather Advisory.
“NYC Winter Weather Advisory: 9 am to 7 pm on March 12. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected. Winds 25 mph gusting to 50 mph. Quick freezing of standing water possible,” the NYC Emergency Management Service says in a message.

The ConEdison company said it was waiting for what could happen with the storm.
“We are monitoring the storm that is expected to hit our region on Saturday morning. We are ready to respond to any service problems that may occur,” ConEdison said in a message on social networks.

Temperatures Saturday morning will be in the 40s and 50s in the tri-state area, then drop to the 10s and 20s causing rain to turn to snow.
The rain could be heavy enough to cause flooding on streets and highways Friday night through Saturday.
The City Sanitation department also said it was ready with salt trucks if necessary to deal with the snow.
“Our salt spreaders are packed and will be ready for use,” the department wrote.

By late afternoon on Saturday, temperatures are likely to be near freezing.
Late Friday afternoon the National Weather Service updated its weather forecast for Saturday.
Much more snow is expected in some regions outside of NYC.
