Rain-flood and thunderstorms: 6 departments of the south-east maintained in orange vigilance

WEATHER – Six departments in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region remained on orange rain-flood and thunderstorm alert during the night from Sunday to Monday, Météo France announced at 11 p.m.

The Cévennes episode was around 10 p.m. in “clear attenuation”, allowing the lifting of the alert on Lozère. Very locally, strong accumulations were recorded: nearly 46 cm in Villefort (Lozère), “or about 3 to 4 months of rain,” said Météo France.

Gard, Ardèche, Bouches-du-Rhône, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Var and Vaucluse, on the other hand, remained in orange, with “very active storm lines, accompanied by violent phenomena, ( …) strong gusts of wind and hail ”, warns the bulletin, faced with a climatic event planned to last until Monday 4 pm.

For example, in Tarascon, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, more than 7 cm were measured in 1 hour, illustrates Météo France on its Twitter account dedicated to risks.

3,200 customers without electricity in the Gard

In the Gard, where up to 200 firefighters were deployed, including two groups of whitewater rescuers, interventions remained “weak”, said the prefecture. But 3,200 customers are deprived of electricity, following falling trees, in eleven municipalities.

The firefighters, however, had to make safety measures in particular in Chamborigaud, north of Gard at the limit of Lozère, or in Nîmes or on the A9 motorway.

In Ardèche, the emergency services indicate that they “proceeded at the end of the afternoon to around twenty safety measures in the Montpezat-sous-Bauzon sector, including some people in vehicles that were being carried away”.

“An elderly person missing was finally found under a bridge, in a hypothermic situation, in Rosières”, added the firefighters. And the La Beaume river exceeded its 2004 and 2016 ratings at Rosières and Joyeuse. In the same sector, a caravan, taken around 5 pm, is also wanted, but “we do not know if there is anyone inside” and “no disappearance has been reported to us”.

At 8 p.m., however, the recession had started, according to the latest information from the firefighters.

On the departments still on alert in Paca, “the rain showers will continue during the day on Monday, reactivating strongly in Monday afternoon,” added Météo France.

“As with any Mediterranean autumn event, it is advisable to keep regularly informed of the evolution of the situation, elements of aggravation which can occur quickly”, insists the monitoring body.
