Rain and Strong Winds Damage 146 Houses in Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta – 2 Residents Injured

Rain accompanied by strong winds in Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta on Wednesday afternoon, January 3 2024 resulted in 146 residents’ houses experiencing light to moderate damage. Two residents suffered injuries due to falling building materials.

Data collected by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Gunungkidul Regency as of Wednesday evening stated that as many as 146 residents’ houses in a number of Kapanewon suffered light to moderate damage.

Generally, damage occurs to building roofs which are swept away by strong winds and damaged by fallen trees. Apart from damaging houses, strong winds also damaged school facilities and local markets.

Apart from that, two residents were reported to have suffered minor and moderate injuries due to falling building materials.

The Chief Executive of BPDB Gunungkidul Purwono appealed to the public to be alert if there is rain accompanied by strong winds. In the weather forecast received from the YIA Meteorological Station, in the Gunungkidul area, especially the northern part, there will still be heavy rain in the next few days.
