NEW YORK — Umbrellas and raincoats will be needed for early travel Wednesday as heavy rain and storms return to the New York area.
Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected ahead and along a slow-moving cold front as it moves through the area Wednesday morning into the afternoon.
This will bring a threat of isolated or scattered cases of flash flooding and isolated severe weather conditions in the tri-state area.
A flash flood watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Heavier rain is expected during the morning travel hours, and temperatures and humidity will drop, giving way to clear skies.
During the afternoon, scattered rain is expected in the area, with the possibility of thunder.
Once the front moves through, nicer weather will affect our area and even bring a hint of fall.
