Riga, January 14, LETA. The record of Jim suites: Reimagined! or “Jazz Cycles” – re – recorded maestro jazz suites.
According to Mareks Ameriks, the publishing house’s director, the record includes jazz suites composed by pianist and composer Paul in the 1960s, which were re-recorded in the Latvian Radio studio, playing the maestro together with the Latvian Radio Big Band.
You can listen to the instrumental jazz suite “Southern Watercolors”, as well as excerpts from the suites “Black Colors”, “Mountain Sketches” and “Impressions”, but the soundtrack is revealed by the composition “Instrument Parade (Orchestras)”, which was first performed in several big band concerts . The leader and conductor of the Latvian Radio Big Band, saxophonist Kārlis Vanags, has created the Arrangement Big Band, but the vibraphonist Miķelis Dzenuška is participating as a guest in the recording.
The recording was made on an authentic professional studio lamp tape recorder “Studer C37” manufactured in the sixties, which was located in the Riga Recording Studio in the Reformed Church, where the music publishing house “Melodija” made its recordings.
Ameriks stated that the record “Jazz suites: Reimagined!” is a kind of continuation of the album “The Lost Latvian Radio studio sessions 1965/1966”, or “Unreleased Latvian Radio Studio Recordings 1965/1966”, released last spring, which summarizes the jazz suites “Southern Watercolors” recorded in the 1960s by Raimonds Paula Trio. , “Impressions” and “Mountain Sketches”.
The recording of the album was made in January 2021, analogously, on tape, under the direction of sound director Gustav Ērenpreiss, assisting Augustins Dell and Mārtiņš Krastiņš. Photos of Oscar Upenieks are used in the design of the cover of the record, but the design was created by Edgar Ameriks.
