Raimonds Pauls and Daumants Kalniņš will perform at the Cēsi Art Festival

“On summer evenings, Cēsis Castle Park hosts concerts in a jazz mood, but if they are world-class artists such as Radio Big Band, Raimonds Pauls and Daumants Kalniņš, then such an evening will bring real pleasure! Of course, these artists have also performed in Cēsis before, but with such a program and in this line-up – for the first time! Closing the music program of the 16th Cēsis Art Festival with this concert, we want to leave our listeners with a bright and positive aftertaste,” says Indra Lūkina, head of the festival’s music program, about the concert.

“We are honored to be a part of this year’s Cēsis Art Festival. The evening of August 7th will be a celebration of the music of maestro Raimonds Paulus. We will play music from different periods of his creative work. We are glad that we have the opportunity to hold events in the great company of musicians, including working together with one of the best for the interpreters of the maestro’s songs, the singer Daumanta Kalniņa,” says the artistic director of the Latvian Radio big band, Kārlis Vanags.

Raimonda Paulus and Daumantas Kalniņš’s cooperation lasts for almost ten years. Both had joint programs with the Latvian Radio big band, the “Rīga” orchestra, Ilona Bageli, Dinār Rudān, Kristīni Prauliņa, LNSO strings and also as a duo, staging the cycle “Bird Songs” with the poetry of Ines Zander.

In the Cēsi concert, along with tarantellas inspired by Zander and waltzes of Vīžrījas, there will be popular and long-loved Maestro songs with poetry by Jānis Peters, Annas Rancānes and Dainas Avotiņas. Also, we will be able to remember the great ballads with the texts of Imantas Ziedonis. The program also includes Raimonda Paul’s 60s instrumental masterpiece “Dienvidu aquarelis”. The visitors of the concert will surely recognize such favorite songs as “The last page”, “Unsent letter”, “Jel paželo”, “Everything comes and goes in the distance”, etc. Rock and roll notes will also be heard.

The Cēsi Art Festival will take place for the sixteenth time this year. As part of this, the contemporary art exhibition “Blue Bay House” is on view at the Cēsi Contemporary Art Center from July 9 to August 14, the basis of which is the collaboration of artists Evita Vasiļjeva and Kaspars Grošev.

In the gallery of the “Cēsis” concert hall, the exhibition of Daiņas Pundur’s ceramic dishes “Waiting for the big animal” is on display until August 14. The exhibition is designed as a staging of events that did not happen in the past.

On the other hand, the exhibition “Bruno Vasiļevskis. PS” will be on display until August 28 at the Cēsi Exhibition House. Its focus is on one of the brightest personalities in Latvian painting of the second half of the 20th century. In addition to the works of Bruno Vasilevskis, the works of Imantas Lancmanis, Jura Pudānas, Maijas Tabakas, Miervalža Poļas and others will be on display at the exhibition.

On July 31, the Grand Prix show of theater performances will begin in the “Cēsis” concert hall. On July 31, the audience will have the opportunity to watch the play “Welcome, Sadness” at Daile Theater, on August 3 “Sarunu Concert. Chaklais. Cits” at Liepāja Theater, on August 10 at Valmiera Drama Theater “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”, while on August 20 – “Mazā naudiņa” of the Latvian National Theater.
