“Railway Modernization Update: Travel Time from Warsaw to Poznań to Remain Same After Completion of Renovations”

It will take almost two and a half hours to travel from the capital to Poznań, when the railwaymen deal with the modernization of the main line – and this has been going on since 2017. Passengers will spend less time on the train than at present, but the same as before the start of the renovation. The deputy minister explains that although the works on the Warsaw-Poznań line will end, the situation is different in other places on the railway map of Poland.

The modernization of the E20 bus started in 2017. It is still ongoing, although it was supposed to end sooner, around 2020.

KO MP Adam Szłapka was curious as to how long railway passengers had to expect difficulties on the Warsaw – Poznań route. Andrzej Bittel, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, answered his question.

According to a member of the government, all modernization works on the line Sochaczew – Swarzedz should end in fourth quarter of 2023. The state-owned company PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe is responsible for the ongoing renovation.

“Faster than now (only a few Berlin-Warsaw-Express trains run between Poznań and Warsaw in just under three hours), we are to go between Poznań and Warsaw in June,” reads Bittel’s letter.

From Warsaw to Poznań in 2 hours and 32 minutes. Almost the same as before the renovation

As the deputy minister calculated, from June the fastest travel time of the Poznań-Warsaw train will be approx 2 hours and 32 minutes. He noted, however, that this may still change, because at the time he wrote the answer, the timetable in force from June 11 had not yet been approved.

“After the completion of the works, the possible travel time of the fast train on the Warsaw – Poznań route (assuming stops at Warszawa Zachodnia, Kutno and Konin stations) may be approx. 2 hours and 24 minutes” Bittel added.

Meanwhile, “Rynek Kolejowy” reminded that from December 2015 to the end of 2016 the fastest train between Poznań and Warsaw ran in 2 hours and 25 minuteswithout stops between Warszawa Zachodnia and Poznań Główny.

“If it stopped along the way in Kutno and Konin, it would run in 2 hours and 30 minutes. The likely gain in time for the trains, after the six-year work is completed, is therefore about six minutes” – calculated the industry magazine.

Over two billion for the modernization of the route between Swarzędz and Sochaczew

Minister Bittel pointed out that other modernization works, including at the station, are being carried out at the same time and have an impact on train traffic West Warsaw and on the episode Lowicz-Ozarow Mazowiecki.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and PKP companies, the main purpose of the reconstruction of the E20 railway line is increasing throughput through, among others modern rail traffic control systems and modernization of the traction network and power supply system.

It is also planned to eliminate barriers for people with limited mobility thanks to the installation of elevators in underground passages, guiding paths on platforms, spatial information in Braille, and reducing environmental nuisance by installing noise barriers.

The cost of the renovation of the E20 line on the section Swarzędz – Sochaczew amounted to PLN 2.3 billion.
