BUENOS AIRES (AP) – Ferroviaria de Brasil defeated Universidad de Chile on penalties on Thursday after a goalless draw in regulation time and will define the women’s Copa Libertadores title against América de Cali.
The Brazilians prevailed 7-6 in a series from 12 steps in which their goalkeeper Luciana saved three shots, in a semifinal played at the Francisco Urbano stadium of Deportivo Morón.
The U had an excellent opportunity to go to the front near the end of the first half after signaling a foul on Daniela Zamora in the small area. Yessenia López was in charge of the collection, but finished off wide.
Ferroviaria will play its third continental final after being established in the 2015 edition and finishing runners-up in 2019.
In the other semifinal played on Wednesday, América de Cali surprised the last champion Corinthians, with the Colombians winning 4-3 after a 1-1 in time.
The title match will be played next Sunday at the Vélez Sarsfield stadium.
