The number of passengers transported by the National Railways Office (ONCF) amounted to 26.4 million people during the first half of 2024, up 7% compared to the same period a year earlier.
This “Passengers” activity generated a turnover (CA) of more than 1.26 billion dirhams (MMDH), up 8% compared to the end of June 2023, ONCF said in a press release, noting that the “Al Boraq” train, which continues to establish itself as an icon of sustainable mobility and a vector of change, transported, in H1-2024, more than 2.6 million passengers (+14% year-on-year).
As for the transport of goods, it saw an improvement in volumes transported of 32% to 9 million tonnes (MT), mainly supported by the good performance of the transport of phosphates which increased by 68% compared to the first half of 2023. The turnover of Freight and Phosphates increased by 23% to 815 million dirhams (MDH).
Thus, the consolidated turnover increased by 16% to more than 2.55 billion dirhams at the end of last June. In social, the turnover showed an increase of 12% to nearly 2.18 billion dirhams.
Furthermore, the ONCF published its carbon footprint for 2023, showing a considerable reduction in its carbon footprint, despite the remarkable increase in the use of train travel, with a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
