“Rail Disruption Could Continue for Another Six Months as RMT Members Vote for More Strikes”

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers Union (RMT) has won a mandate for another six months of walkouts after its members at 14 train operating companies voted overwhelmingly to continue industrial action over pay. This means that rail passengers could face months more of disruption, as strikes could continue into the autumn. According to the RMT, more than 90% of balloted members voted to renew the mandate for continuing with strike action. Mick Lynch, the general secretary of the union, said that this sends a clear message to rail companies. Members of the RMT union are planning to down tools on May 13, the day of the Eurovision Song Contest final in Liverpool, after rejecting the latest pay offer.
