On the occasion of Europe-wide Rail Day, there were also Deutsche Bahn events in our region.
The regional DB branches Westfrankenbahn and Mainfrankenbahn were present at Lauda station. The “train simulator” was a crowd puller and allowed young and old to try out being a train driver. While the youngest children had fun on the bouncy castle or the bobby car course, the cycle tourists heading to their trains were amazed at the mobile bike washing facility.
At the passenger advisory board, rail customers criticized the limited and often missed train connections in Lauda. They were promised that a timetable reform at the end of next year with more relaxed transition times would help.
The topic of personnel recruitment that is currently current for the railway was also present in Lauda: at the “recruiting team” stand, trainees and career changers were recruited with the promise of a secure job close to home. For Westfrankenbahn boss Denis Kollai, it was a promising venture: it was thanks to an advertising campaign at Miltenberg train station in February of this year that a new training course for train drivers was able to start in Miltenberg on September 1st.
A “recruiting team” was also active with information about railway careers at Würzburg main station, where Rail Day was also a topic. The main attraction was the vehicle exhibition with the opportunity to view the driver’s cabs. The German Society for Railway History also included steam locomotive 52 7409, christened “City of Würzburg,” in this exhibition.
