More than 1,300 railway and other professionals from 34 Baltic and European countries, including Germany, Italy, Finland, Great Britain, Sweden, France and others, participated in the online procurement seminar organized by Rail Baltica on March 30. The main goal of the seminar was to provide information on Rail Baltica’s procurement plans and process, evaluation criteria and key requirements that will help potential suppliers and global project partners to succeed in future public procurement.

In an online seminar, which can be viewed again on the website railbaltica.org, representatives of RB Rail AS presented the main planned public procurement tenders, including national project implementers, in 2021.

The event was opened by Agnis Driksna, Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of RB Rail AS, emphasizing the current focus of the global project, which is the preparation for large-scale construction works. “Despite the negative impact of the pandemic, which has slowed down many sectors, the Rail Baltica project has made significant progress in 2020. We continue to receive strong political support at both national and EU level. The role of the global project will continue to grow, stimulating economic recovery and on the driving force for regional development in the Baltic States.

Continuing with the next stage of development of Rail Baltica, this year we will focus on preparing for the start of large-scale construction work. This will include both the synchronization of the global project implementation plans with the available financing perspectives, as well as the necessary preparatory work for the provision of railway materials and components for the construction of the main line. “The total value of the contract for the public procurement projects launched this year will exceed 2 billion euros, and we hope to establish strong and sustainable partnerships in the coming years,” says Driksna.

Rail Baltica design works are taking place 640 km from Rail Baltica’s 870 km long main route, as well as 2020 has marked the start of construction works in all three Baltic countries. By 2026, Rail Baltica’s total investments in the Baltic region will reach 5.8 billion euros, of which 85% is co-financed by the European Union, and the amount of currently concluded agreements reaches 675 million euros.

“Today we work with more than 217 companies in the Baltics and 50 in the rest of the European Union, combining the best international and local knowledge and experience. We encourage both international and local partners to participate in public procurement to join the Rail Baltica team and work together to achieve the project’s ambitious goals. , “adds Driksna.

Kristjans Pīrsalu, Purchasing Manager of RB Rail AS, presented the main public procurement directions: procurement of consolidated railway materials and structures for such categories as rails, sleepers, reinforced concrete elements and noise walls, public procurement for the remaining two Rail Baltica main route sections in Lithuania, as well as new public energy subsystems for the design and construction, and for the implementation of the signaling (CCS) subsystems, which will be launched in 2022.
