Rail at The Hague recovered faster than expected: first trains this morning

The track near The Hague that was damaged by an derailed train on Thursday, has recovered faster than expected. The first trains will start running again from 10.30 onwards in the morning, the NS reports.

On Friday, ProRail, the rail manager, announced that no trains could run between The Hague Central Station and Gouda until 5 AM on Monday morning. According to ProRail and NS, the repair work is going very well.

Today only two intercity trains run on the route every hour. The sprinters will not run between The Hague Central Station and The Hague Ypenburg until 5:00 AM Monday morning. The NS uses buses between these stations. The railway company advises travelers to consult the travel planner.

Broken wheels

The train derailment that damaged the rails was probably caused by two wheels breaking, the Dutch Railways reported last night after the first examination. “Such serious damage to the wheels is rare,” said NS technology director Rob Luyten. As a precautionary measure, the railway company had all 49 trainsets of the same type checked for defects.
