The police suspected early on that the acts were related and founded two special commissions, as reported by the newspaper “BZ”. The perpetrators found the suspect because DNA traces could be secured at one of the crime scenes.

The Hamburger Sparkasse (Haspa) and the Kiel Public Prosecutor offered 55,000 euros in rewards for clues that lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators. A bank employee had already noticed a man in the spring of 2020 who had been looking around in the area in front of the vault. Since then, the police have been searching with phantom images and images from surveillance cameras.
