Rai Stops Fedez’s Participation on Rai 2: Controversies and Censorship

The Rai stops the participation of Fedez a Beasts. The rapper was supposed to be one of the highlight guests of the new season of the program Rai 2 conducted by Francesca Fagnanima from Viale Mazzini a sharp heel would come, despite the singer having accepted after a long back and forth.

But it is well known that there is no bad blood between Rai and the singer. Just as the mutual ill will between the party is known Giorgia Meloni eh Ferragnez (see – for example – the words of the influencer who in August 2022, in the midst of the electoral campaign, contested the politics of FdI on abortion in the Marche).

Francesca Fagnani’s invitation

It all started last February, when Fedez received a direct invitation from the journalist. Invitation rejected to the sender on the occasion of Sanremo Festival. Around that time, the rapper and then-friend’s podcast Luis SaltWild Moss – had moved to the Riviera and was broadcast for the entire duration of the festival at 6.45pm on Rai2 and from 7pm on RaiPlay and among the guests who stopped by the studio there was also Francesca Fagnani.

“When you go to ‘Belve’ you can’t get out well”

On that occasion Fedez had asked his guest who she would like to interview but she had said no and Fagnani had scolded him: “You, who didn’t really say no to me. You told me: ‘Let’s see'”. At that point Federico Lucia he explained: “Can I tell you the truth? You’re too bitchy. When you go to Beasts you can’t get out of it well.” But Francesca Fagnani replied that, in reality, whoever passed by Beasts he was somehow “humanized” by showing his own weaknesses and fragility.

Fedez vs. Ray

But then, twist: Fedez had backtracked by agreeing to participate in the broadcast. At this point, however, the Rai ostracism would have started. And, in fact, between the rapper and the company, the controversies in recent years have not been few or even light.

The Rosa Chemical case

Just during the last Sanremo, the singer was at the center of controversy for the kiss he gave to his colleague Rosa Chemical on the Ariston stage on the final evening of the Festival. Kiss which – moreover – caused a profound crisis with Chiara Ferragni.

The photo of the deputy minister was torn

Previously, live from the Costa Smeralda cruise ship, Federico had heavily attacked some Italian politicians, in particular Galeazzo Bignami, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, showing (and tearing up) the photo of government representative Meloni in a Nazi uniform during a party in 2005. “The lyrics of this song had not been announced to the Rai staff present here and therefore I want to take full responsibility for what I said”, he then underlined, attributing full authorship of his speech.

The defense of gender

In his freestyle, Fedez had also mentioned Rosa Chemicalat the center of the controversy launched by Fratelli d’Italia in the previous weeks, for wanting to bring gender fluid singing to Sanremo “Sex, polygamous love and porn on OnlyFans”. Complete with a request to Rai and the organizers: “Think again”. And even before that, between Fedez and Rai there was the case of the May 1st 2021 concert.

The Concertone case

On the stage in Piazza San Giovanni, the rapper expressed his support for the entertainment workers hit hard by the lockdowns and anti-Covid measures and attacked the League’s positions on Dear Zancriticizing some exponents by listing their sentences, defining them as homophobic.

The words of the Northern League

‘If I had a gay son I would burn him in the oven’, Giovanni De Paoli, regional councilor of the Liguria League – the rapper had read – ‘Gays? Let them start behaving like all normal people’, Alessandro Rinaldicouncilor for the League, Reggio Emilia”.

The accusations of censorship

Everything, then, was preceded by Fedez’s accusations against Rai which – according to the singer – wanted to exercise preventive censorship on his lyrics. He clearly denied accusations from viale Mazzini, but reiterated on Twitter by the artist who had published the phone call on social media exchanged with the (then) deputy director of Rai 3, Ilaria Capitani: “Rai denies the censorship. Here is the phone call taken last night where the deputy director of Rai 3 Ilaria Capitani together with her collaborators urge me to ‘adapt to a SYSTEM’ saying that I can’t mention names and surnames on stage”, was the text that accompanied the post.

Rai’s complaint (later withdrawn)

“Rai has given a mandate to its lawyers to proceed in criminal proceedings against Fedez”, he announced Massimiliano Capitanio, at that time deputy of the Northern League and group leader in Rai Supervision. “A necessary and dutiful act, on the founding themes of our democracy”. “I’m proud of what I did, I would do it again a thousand times”, was the rapper’s reply. “I am ready to face the consequences.”

Fazio’s guest

But then everything ended in nothing, due to “lack of certain requirements”. And to seal the newfound serenity was Fedez’s guest appearance in the episode on Sunday 3 October at What’s the weather like: the rapper, together with Achille Lauro e Orietta Berti he had been in the studio of Fabio Fazio to sing the summer hit with colleagues Mille. But the controversies, as we have seen, were destined to reignite.
