Indian politician Rahul Gandhi, member of the Indian National Congress party, is set to vacate his official bungalow in central Delhi’s Tughlaq Lane on Saturday morning, following a court ruling that rejected his request to pause his conviction in a “Modi surname” defamation case. The case led to his disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP, and he was given a notice to leave his bungalow by the Lok Sabha housing panel on March 27. Gandhi had been occupying the bungalow since 2005 but must leave as a convict sentenced to two years cannot be an MP. The Gujarat court had given him 30 days to file an appeal, which he did and lost on Friday, meaning he cannot be reinstated as MP for now. The deadline set by the Lok Sabha housing panel for Gandhi to vacate the house is Sunday.
