The Lok Sabha Secretariat in India has canceled the government accommodation granted to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who will now be allowed to keep his Tughlak Lane bungalow until April 22. If Gandhi does not vacate the property by April 24, the Lower House’s house committee will approach the Department of Estates to begin eviction proceedings. As per existing norms, members of Lok Sabha or their families can maintain a government accommodation for one month after their retirement, resignation, removal or ceasing to be a member on payment of the same rent they were paying immediately prior to relinquishing membership. The letter to Gandhi also stated that his bungalow allocation would be deemed to have been canceled from April 24, 2023.
