English footballer Raheem Sterling was the target of a racist attack on Instagram. The offensive post appeared on his account after Manchester City’s advance to the Champions League final and less than 48 hours after the boycott of social networks by English sports organizations ended.

“The racist insult to Raheem Sterling is unacceptable and we do not want it on Instagram. We removed the comment and took action against the profile that posted it,” a spokesman for Facebook, which owns Instagram, told DPA.

Sterling has been the target of racism on the Internet in the past. According to a study by the Association of Professional Footballers (PFA), since the restart of the competition, 44 players have targeted more than 3,000 offensive posts on another social network, Twitter. Half of them were addressed to only three players – Adebay Akinfenw, Wilfried Zaha and Sterling.
