The English Football Association revealed on Thursday that its player, Raheem Sterling, will return to the country’s national team camp, before facing France in Saturday’s quarter-finals of the Qatar World Cup 2022.
Sharjah 24 – Reuters:
The English Football Association announced on Thursday that their player, Raheem Sterling, will return to his international training camp, before facing France in next Saturday’s quarter-finals.
Sterling missed England’s 3-0 win over Senegal in the last 16 after leaving Qatar to return to his family following a robbery.
The FA said in a statement: “The Chelsea forward has departed for family reasons but is now expected to join the squad at Al Wakrah on Friday before facing France in the quarter-finals.”
England will face France at Al-Bayt Stadium to appear in the semi-finals, and will be looking to overthrow the defending champions and reach the semi-finals again, having done so in Russia in 2018.
Sterling made two group stage appearances, scoring one goal and contributing to another, in a 6-2 victory over Iran in the opening round.
But Sterling will contend for a place in the starting lineup with Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford, each with three goals, alongside Phil Foden.
And if England qualify for the semi-finals, they will face either Portugal or Morocco, for a ticket to the final.
