Mumbai: BCCI could release senior players Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma from their one-year contracts. It is reported that Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav will be included in the list instead of them. The BCCI will decide the squad for the 2022-23 season at its meeting on December 21. Hardik Pandya, who is on his way to captain India in the Twenty20, will be promoted from Group C to Group B.
Meanwhile, Team India’s performance in the Twenty20 World Cup and tour of Bangladesh will not be discussed at the BCCI meeting. The main agenda of the meeting is to “keep up the contract of the stars”. Along with Rahane and Ishant Sharma, wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha will also be out of contract. A senior BCCI official told PTI news agency that Suryakumar Yadav should be promoted to Group A or Group B.
Suryakumar is now in group C. But if we look at his performance over the past year, he should be promoted to group A or B,” the official said. BCCI A Plus contract players get Rs 7 crore. Group A will receive five crores and Group B three crores.Players in Group C will receive Rs.Groups A Plus and A are generally awarded to players who play regularly in all three formats.
