This year, two screenings are planned – an animated short film program and an Ilze Burkovska-Jakobsen documentary animated film”My favorite war“and will be shown on Saturday, November 14, the organizers inform.

At 11 o’clock to the cinema “Splendid Palace” Great Hall “Lielais Kristaps” invites the youngest spectators and their families. The program includes animated short films. The song “Māsiņas Puteklītes”, the favorite song of “Mirīnumskapja” by children and parents, has been turned into moving pictures. This was done by the director Krista Burāne with artists Kristīne Jurjāni and Tomas Burāns, and the work of both was nominated for the “Big Kristaps” category in the category Best Animated Artist ‘s Work. The premiere of “Sister Dust” will take place in the “Big Kristaps” program.
The screening will also feature three latest films from the “Cloths” series: “How the Cloths Have Breakfast”, “How the Cloths Counted Time” and “How the Cloths Traveled”, as well as two films made at the puppet studio “Animation Brigade”. In Jānis Cimermanis ‘film “London Holidays”, the “Emergency Brigade”, which is well known to the audience, goes to the British capital because the Big Ben’s mechanism is broken, but in Dace Rīdūze’s film “Pea Children”, inspired by Rainis’ poem, a particularly edible worm.

At 13 o’clock will be followed by the next animated film screening, and will feature Ilze Burkovska-Jacobsen’s full-length animated film “My Favorite War”, which triumphed this year at the world’s most important animated film festival in Annecy, France. It is a story about the rise of the Cold War in Latvia from the 1970s to the Awakening, from the Soviet regime to the restoration of independence, and it reveals the director’s own experience. The intertwining of historical facts, everyday realities and personal memories with humor, seriousness and openness creates a human and living testimony of a historically significant time. My Favorite War has been nominated for Kristaps the Great in six categories: Best Animated Film, Best Screenplay, Best Animated Film Direction, Best Animated Artist, Best Music, and Best Sound Direction. The screening will be announced by the director himself.
The most important event of the Latvian film industry “Lielais Kristaps” will take place this year from November 12 to 15. “Lielais Kristaps” gives an opportunity to see and professionally evaluate the latest Latvian films, as well as to honor the traditions of Latvian cinema. The films will be available at the Splendid Palace cinema, Tallinn Street and online – www.filmas.lv.
Ticket prices at the Splendid Palace cinema:
- Special screenings (premieres, opening event) – 6.50 euros.
- Other screenings – 5.00 euros.
- Students presenting an ISIC card, a student card – 4.50 euros.
- For students, pensioners, disabled people of the 3rd group, presenting a certificate – 3.50 euros.
- Children, family sessions – 3.00 euros.

In 2016, “Kristaps the Great” won the status of the National Award, and this year the awards will be presented for the 32nd time. The National Film Award “Lielais Kristaps” is organized by the Latvian Cinematographers’ Union in cooperation with the National Film Center and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
