Ragnarok appears to hint at Kratos’ fate

If you are planning to enter the game without knowing anything about the plot, it may be time to tweak your social media filters as more and more spoilers are popping up online. This also applies to this post, if you do not want to know about possible spoilers, then it is better to stop reading immediately, turn off the monitor and the computer.

Earlier today, user MarkusPS4 noted in his Reddit post that on Twitter (it will open in a new tab) there were screenshots of God of War Ragnarok. The visuals appear to cover most of the game, from cutscenes to combat and exploration, with details of the entire story. Some shots have already appeared in the trailers, but most of the others are brand new.

Key details appear to reveal several new monsters: Kratos battles reptilians and centaurs. It is also interesting to observe the relationship dynamics between Kratos and Thor, which seem strangely friendly in one screenshot and much less friendly in another.

However, perhaps the most striking detail in the images is Atreus’s apparent appearance as a playable character. In the first game, Kratos’ son was pretty much a support character, but one shot shows Atreus behind him with an archery-oriented interface, and Kratos is nowhere to be seen. Maybe the God of War is already dead? Or is he on the brink of death?

Eric Williams talked about how much Atreus has grown since the game’s release in 2018 (something the team has had to deal with in real life as well), so it makes sense that the character has a chance to level up in the next sequel. However, Sony Santa Monica hasn’t hinted at an expansion, so these screenshots are a surprise.
