Rafic Hariri Airport Cyber Attack Malfunctions Baggage Inspection System

Today, Sunday, the screens of the waiting room at Rafic Hariri International Airport in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, were hacked, and writings opposing “Hezbollah” and the war in southern Lebanon appeared on them.

The official Lebanese Information Agency reported that the departure and arrival screens at Beirut Airport were subject to electronic hacking and are being addressed, and explained that “the cyber attack led to the disruption of the baggage inspection system.”

She added, “The inspection platoon of the Internal Security Forces at the airport is working, with all the security and administrative agencies working there, to implement the alternative plan and keep movement normal at the airport.”

Social media users circulated pictures and video clips showing those screens on which the slogan “Soldiers of God,” one of the extremist Christian groups, appeared, in addition to a message directed to “Hezbollah.”

The message stated: “Rafik Hariri Airport is not the airport of Hezbollah and Iran (…) Oh Hezbollah, we will not fight on behalf of anyone, so let the airport be freed from the grip of the state.”

This comes at a time when Hezbollah has been engaged in a clash with the Israeli occupation army since last October 8, following the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation carried out by Hamas, where the party engaged in responding to the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

Since last October 7, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, which as of today, Sunday, has left 22,835 martyrs, 58,416 wounded, massive infrastructure destruction, and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
