St. Gallen in World War II: The drifter Ernst Schrämli dreams of a career as a singer in Germany and sells Swiss military information to a Nazi spy. When his crime was discovered, he became the first Swiss man to be sentenced to death for espionage and treason. TRAITOR is a film based on true events about a young daydreamer who is exploited and betrayed during the war. Ernst Schrämli was the first of 17 traitors in Switzerland to be executed.
The film tells of the last years in the life of Ernst Schrämli, whose fate between financial profit and moral integrity also becomes an inventory of Switzerland during the Second World War.
