Rafah Crossing: Aid Trucks from Egypt to Gaza Strip Despite Israeli Bombing

In statements to Sky News Arabia, the official spokesman for the Rafah crossing on the Palestinian side, Wael Abu Omar, revealed that the crossing is suitable for the passage of aid trucks from Egypt to the Gaza Strip, despite Israel’s repeated bombing of it.

Israel bombed the crossing from the Palestinian side several times, in light of the war it is currently waging against the Gaza Strip following the surprise attack carried out by Hamas against it on Saturday, October 7th.

Abu Omar said that the crossing was bombed 3 times, resulting in major damage to the roads and corridors inside and around it, as well as damage to electricity and water facilities and Internet networks on the Palestinian side.

But the crossing spokesman said, “Despite this, with simple maintenance, it is possible to work on bringing in aid trucks and crossing passengers.”

He pointed out that the Egyptian side of the crossing suffered minor damage as a result of the impact of the bombing, and Egyptian mechanisms are currently working to maintain it.

More than two million Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip urgently need humanitarian aid, which has been waiting on the Egyptian side of the crossing for days for the decision to cross.

Abu Omar noted that “the employees at the crossing from the Palestinian side left it due to the bombing, and it is currently closed, but they will return to it as soon as it is agreed to open it,” noting that no instructions have been received yet regarding the date of opening the crossing.

This comes as the Egyptian and international aid convoy arrived at the Rafah crossing, awaiting its opening after waiting for 3 days in the nearby city of Al-Arish.

It should be noted that the Egyptian aid convoy heading to Gaza includes 120 large trucks carrying tons of food supplies, and 300,000 packages of medicine, clothes, and relief tents, as two officials of the convoy revealed to Sky News Arabia earlier.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced the allocation of Al-Arish Airport to receive international relief materials allocated to the Gaza Strip.
