The Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal was not intimidated by the question that a fan asked him in the middle of the street, about the great discussion surrounding soccer lovers in recent years, and He risked answering who is better, if the Argentine Lionel Messi or the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Messi is better,” Nadal declared without hesitation, despite later stating that he is a “Madrid fan.”

Nadal has been recovering since the beginning of June, after undergoing an arthroscopy (procedure to diagnose and treat joint problems), which was then projected at least five months and that has prevented him from playing tennis in recent times.

“Everything has gone well and the arthroscopy was in the left psoas tendon that has kept me out of the competition since January (…) an old injury to the labrum of my left hip was also regularized, which will surely help the tendon evolve better,” Nadal told his followers, then, through his Twitter account.

As reported by its press service through a statement, the surgery consisted of cleaning the “fibrotic and degenerated areas of the tendon both proximal and distal, as well as suturing it to adequately reinforce it.”

Nadal, 37, has not competed since he injured the psoas in his left leg at the Australian Open in January. and in which he was fired in the second round against the American Mackenzie McDonald.

Initially, the injury was going to keep him away from competitions for six to eight weeks, but his absence lengthened.

Nadal has said that seeks to recover to be able to have a last year of competition with all the guarantees in 2024 when, in this sense, his retirement from the slopes would take place.

Despite his recurring pain, and some last few years that he described as “complicated”, Nadal said at the time: “I don’t deserve to end up like this, I think I’ve worked hard enough throughout my entire sports career so that my end is not here today in a press conference.”

Nadal did not want to set a date for his return, but left the door open to try it in the Davis Cup at the end of the year.

The Spaniard is the second tennis player with the most Grand Slam titles in tennis history, with 22, only behind the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who has 23, and ahead of the Swiss Roger Federer who retired with 20 ‘big’ trophies.
