If he manages to make his return to the circuit, Rafael Nadal plans to end his career with a victory in a Grand Slam tournament. What his lifelong rival failed to achieve.
Last September, Roger Federer announced he was ending his career, after 24 years on the ATP Tour. On several occasions, the Swiss champion postponed the deadline for a possible return, before definitively resigning himself.

His last official match will therefore remain his quarter-final at Wimbledon, in 2021. A meeting at the end of which he lost in three sets against Hubert Hurkacz, with a sad 6/0 in the third set. A priori, Rafael Nadal does not want to end his career in the same way. “If he comes back and wins, will he stop in 2024? I don’t think so, honestly, I don’t think so. He’s going to set limits.” warned Juan Monaco, former world number 10 and close to “Rafa”, during an interview given to Clay Tennis.

🗣️ “I know him well and if he prepares to return, he does it to win, not to make the quarterfinals. And if he comes back and wins, he doesn’t retire. The limit will be set by him”

“I know him very well. If he is preparing to come back, he is preparing to win. He is not preparing to reach the quarter-finals. He has a very high level. I think he didn’t play Roland Garros because he saw in training that he wasn’t ready to win even though he could have played it.”, continues the Argentinian. Today, Rafael Nadal is ranked 136th in the ATP.
