According to Danny Miche, Casper Ruud would be Rafael Nadal’s opponent for the Spaniard’s tour in Latin America. Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slams, plans to organize an exhibition tour in November.
Ruud, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, grew up watching and idolizing Nadal. He now he would have the opportunity to face Nadal in several exhibition matches.
Ruud faced Nadal in his first Grand Slam final.
Ruud, 23, made his first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros this year.
In his first major final, Ruud faced the player he watched and idolized as a child, Nadal. Unfortunately for Ruud, he didn’t stand a chance against the Manacor native as the Spaniard handed him a 6-3 6-3 6-0 defeat.
After reaching his second Grand Slam final at the US Open, Ruud admitted that he hoped his second Grand Slam would not come against Nadal at Roland Garros.
“(Nadal) obviously beat me well,” Ruud said. After the final I said: “If I reach one again, I hope it’s not Rafa on the other side of the pitch, because I think it’s an impossible task for any player.”
When Ruud was a child, he played various sports. But at the age of 12, he began to focus more on tennis, his career was inspired by Nadal.
“He has something special from a tennis point of view, in a way, and from that point on I’ve been more involved. I didn’t feel like we were pushing him.
He was already starting to look at Rafa [Nadal] and he was his idol, so he was really involved in the tennis world and wanted to be on that center court someday, ”said Christian, Ruud’s father.
Whenever Ruud is asked about Nadal, he has nothing but words of respect and esteem for the Spaniard.
