The news is not good about Rafael Nadal’s injury.
This Wednesday, our colleagues from AS almost announced his withdrawal from Barcelona’s ATP 500 which is to be held next week when other media have mentioned a probable relapse of his hip injury contracted during the Open d ‘Australia.
Rafa seems to be in good shape at times and much less so at others. A rather worrying information in the perspective of a minimal preparation to arrive at Roland‐Garros with a few matches in hand.
The best example in this register is the year 2020 (The tournament was played in October because of the Covid crisis, editor’s note). The Mallorcan had only been able to play in the Rome tournament, the last major event of the tour on earth. Beaten in the quarters by Diego Schwartzman in Italy, he then played at Roland‐Garros without losing any sets, the better he gave a lesson in the final to Novak Djokovic.
Rafael Nadal’s preparations for Roland‐Garros for 10 years knowing that he won the tournament every time except in 2016 and 2015:
2022 : Madrid, Rome
2021: Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome (defeat in 1⁄2 against Djokovic)
2020 : Rome
2019 : Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome
2018 : Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome
2017 : Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome
2016: Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome (package – wrist)
2015: Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome (defeat in ¼ against Djokovic)
2014 : Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome
2013 : Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome
2012 : Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome
