MELBOURNE – Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal will miss the Australian Open due to injury.
The winner of twenty-two Grand Slam titles, who returned to the courts at the Brisbane tournament after a one-year break, announced his withdrawal on social networks. His comeback was stopped by a torn muscle.
Hi all, during my last match in Brisbane I had a small problem on a muscle that as you know made me worried. Once I got to Melbourne I have had the chance to make an MRI and I have micro tear on a muscle, not in the same part where I had the injury and that’s good news.

Thirty-seven-year-old Nadal, who has not played on the ATP Tour circuit since last year’s elimination in the 2nd round of the Australian Open and underwent hip surgery in the summer, was eliminated in the quarterfinals in Brisbane. An examination after arriving in Melbourne then confirmed that he had torn a muscle in the duel.
“At the moment I am not ready to play at the highest level in five-set matches. I will fly back to Spain to see my doctor, heal and rest.” Nadal said on the X social network.
