Rafael Nadal Vs Casper Ruud in Final French Open 2022

Rafael Nadal drove to final French Open 2022 to aim for his 14th title. Nadal is challenged by Norwegian champions Casper Ruud.

Nadal first takes on the world number three Alexander Zverev at Rolland Garros, Friday (3/5/2022) evening WIB. Nadal in the first set beat Zverev in a tie break 7-6 (10-8)

The duel was fierce for 92 minutes in the first set. Zverev actually appeared dominant over Nadal and was able to lead 4-2. However, Nadal was able to win three games in a row to take a 5-4 lead.

A chase ensued until the deuce position, before Zverev beat Nadal with a drop shot to make the score 5-5. Zverev did not give up and forced the first set to be settled in a tie break after the score was 6-6.

Nadal had made a blunder at the beginning of the tie break so that he trailed 2-5 before winning 8-7. Nadal finally finished with a 10-8 win with a backhand.

In the second set, Zverev stepped on the gas to lead 5-3 over Nadal. Unfortunately, Zverev’s condition made many mistakes, allowing Nadal to equalize the score at 5-5.

Zverev had another 6-5 lead and was chased by Nadal again. Zverev trying to save the second set was disastrous when he tried to return Nadal’s volley, which ended up wide.

Zverev immediately fell and was in pain holding his injured right ankle. The German withdrew and Nadal was declared through to the French Open final to take the throne from Novak Djokovic.

This is Nadal’s 30th final in the Grand Slam era, losing only to Djokovic and Roger Federer who have 31 finals. Nadal’s opponent is eighth seed Caspe Ruud.

Ruud went through a four-set battle against MarianCilic, the 20th seed from Croatia. Trailing 3-6 first, Ruud swept the next three sets 6-4, 6-2, and 6-2.
