“Rafael Nadal should play Roland Garros with a wooden spoon,” jokes Tommy Haas

Rafael Nadal’s Roland Garros records have been recognized as one of the most incredible achievements in the tennis world. Nadal has won 13 Roland Garros titles out of 16 trips to Paris, won 100 out of 102 matches and dominated a major like no other.

A few days ago, Stefanos Tsitsipas joked that Nadal should be banned from participating in Roland Garros. The last hilarious recognition of Rafa’s incredible Parisian record came from former world number 2 Tommy Haas.

The Indian Wells tournament director stepped onto the court with a wooden spoon, hit some balls, and suggested that Rafa replace the racket with a similar one and try to win the Roland Garros.

After Nadal renounced the Sand Major due to injury in 2003 and 2004, he made his debut in Paris in 2005 and made it an instant success.

He won the title shortly after he was 19 and became the last teenager to receive a major crown. Rafa defended the crown three times before Robin Soderling stunned him in the fourth round in 2009. The Spaniard restored the order of 2010, won five titles in a row in Paris and had nine major crowns in the French capital in the last ten years!

In his most challenging years on the tour, Rafa stayed empty-handed in Paris in 2015 and 2016, losing the second game at his beloved event to Novak Djokovic in 2015 and retiring for a year.

As of 2017, Nadal lost just three sets in Paris in the last four years, extended his reign and set many records that were to remain unmatched.

Having gone to Roland Garros since February with just three games in his legs, Rafa had to dig deep to beat rivals and conditions in Paris last October, determined to win another title and join Roger Federer on 20 major crowns .

With cold and rainy weather, new Wilson balls and a roof over Court Philippe-Chatrier, Nadal beat all seven opponents in straight sets and played well above the rest of the field to take another Roland Garros title, the 13th .
