Rafael Nadal Opens Up About Rivalries with Federer and Djokovic in Exclusive Interview with The Country

This interview with Rafael Nadal given to the weekly Spanish newspaper The country risks leaving some traces in the minds of certain fans and observers.

Questioned at length about his rivalries with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, the man at 14 Roland-Garros has clearly, and on several occasions, shown his preference for the Swiss.

Indeed, after having declared that watching Federer play tennis gave him more emotion than watching Djokovic, having denied having tried to intimidate the latter in the locker room at Roland‐Garros and asserting that the Serb had not not needing to evolve his game as much as Federer and himself, Rafa felt that his duels against Djokovic were ultimately less strategic than those against Federer.

“He (Novak Djokovic) strengthened his strengths considerably, but did not radically adapt his game. I had a very strong tactic against Federer; he knew what I was going to do, and I knew how he was going to try to defend himself. It was a game of chess. And when we made a mistake, we knew it. With Djokovic, there is not that level of strategy in matches. You have to play at a very high level for a long time to beat him, it’s different. »
