Rafael Nadal Falls in Quarters of Brisbane Tournament with Physical Complaints

Spanish tennis player falls in the quarters of the Brisbane tournament, but there is worse news than defeat

In the third game after returning, Rafael Nadal lost. The Spaniard was defeated by Jordan Thompson in the quarter-finals of the Brisbane tournament in three sets (7/5; 6/7 and 3/6), after 3h27m.

But worse news for the Spanish tennis player than the defeat was the return of physical complaints.

After wasting three matchpoints, one of them in the tiebreak of the second set, Thompson was stronger than Nadal in the third set.

Nadal interrupted the third set when he was trailing 4-1 to receive medical assistance, after complaints about his left hip, the same one on which he underwent surgery in 2023. The Mallorcan returned at the end of that three-minute medical break to reduce it to 4-2 with a blank game, but he was unable to break the serve of his Australian opponent who closed the match on the first matchpoint he had.

The next few days will tell what the tax status of the 37-year-old former number 1 in the world will be.
