Just as 5 years ago, Rafael Nadal once again entered into the controversy and great debate to defend women in tennis, demanding that the barriers between both sexes be broken once and for all. There is true equality of salaries and prizes in sport.
The historic claim is due to the fact that although they belong to the same circuit, in the same competitions and tournaments, men earn much more money than women in salaries, prizes and sponsors. The Spaniard clarified again that his statements are not intended to be or appear sexist, but rather he intends for each person to have higher or lower salaries depending on what they generate.

Nadal’s new sayings
In a recent interview given to the Spanish journalist Ana Pastor, from the media La Sexta, the 37-year-old athlete was forceful when it came to expressing his view.
“I am not a hypocrite. I don’t want to say things that are easy for me to say and I don’t think. The investment for me should be the same for men and women. The opportunities, the same. What is unfair is that there is no equal opportunity. If you ask me if I am a feminist, tell me what it means to be a feminist because if you tell me that being a feminist means that a man and a woman have the same opportunities, then I am a feminist,” said the Mallorcan.
He also added: “Of course I want equality, but equality does not lie in giving away. It lies in the fact that if Serena Williams was more than me, I want Serena to earn more than me. If she fills the stadiums and generates more, then I don’t want me, because I am Rafa Nadal, to earn more than her. That’s what I see. I want equality,†concluded the winner of 22 Grand Slams.
