Another setback for the Laver Cup!
Rafael Nadal (38) will also not be in Berlin when Team Europe plays against Team World from September 20 to 22. The Spaniard canceled on Thursday evening and the bitter question is: will we never see him play again?

Nadal said of the organizer: “I am really disappointed that I cannot compete in the Laver Cup. This is a team competition and to support Team Europe I have to do the best for them. There are other players at the moment who can help the team win.”
Six players from Europe, coached for the last time by captain Björn Borg (68), compete every year at a different location against six professionals from the “rest of the world”, also for the last time with John McEnroe (65) as captain.

Before Nadal, world number one Jannik Sinner (23), who won the Australian Open and US Open this year, and record Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic (37) had already cancelled. Now Nadal has also cancelled.
“I have so many great, emotional memories of the Laver Cup and was really looking forward to being with my teammates and Björn as captain in his final year. I wish the team the best of luck and will be cheering them on from afar,” he wrote.

It is unforgettable how Nadal and Roger Federer (43) celebrated the end of the Swiss’s career at the show event, which does not award any world ranking points and is not part of the ATP tour. Both sat on the bench, crying and holding hands. Images that went around the world.
Something similar was expected for Berlin, but this will be the last time Nadal will be on the court. The former number 1 has been injured for years and suffers from problems with his foot, knee, back, hip – basically his entire body.

It is becoming increasingly unlikely that he will return to the tour, apart from a farewell event. The 22-time Grand Slam champion’s last singles appearance was at the Olympic Games in Paris, where he was defeated by Djokovic in the second round. Two days later, the doubles match with Alcaraz was also over.
It is still unclear who will replace him in Berlin. As of now, however, it is Alexander Zverev (27). The world number 2 from Hamburg is the star alongside the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (21).
